God is still working—don’t give up praying!
Having a rebellious child can cause a heavy heart, sending us to our knees often. Whether your child is quietly resistant or openly defiant, you may find yourself worn out, discouraged, and unsure of what to do next. The good news is that you’re not alone, and you’re not powerless.
There is one thing more powerful than any parenting tactic: God’s Word. These Scriptures to pray over your rebellious child are not just encouraging; they are tools of spiritual warfare. Prayer brings God’s presence into your parenting, and His Word will work and bring conviction in a way that our words will never do.

Most importantly, Mom, don’t despair! Start by choosing specific verses that reflect the truth you’re believing for your child. Then pray those Scriptures regularly, asking God to soften their heart and work in ways only He can.
Work as though it all depends on you, but pray as though it all depends on God! Go to war on behalf of that child, and fight the enemy with the powerful weapon of God’s Word. Having their heart means having influence with them. As parents, WE want to be the ones who are influencing them, and pouring valuable truths into them that God has shown us.
God will complete the work that He began in your child’s heart! “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6, NIV) Even when your child is struggling, remember—God is still working.
If God can change the heart of a king, He can change the heart of your child. “In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water
that he channels toward all who please Him.” (Proverbs 21:1, NIV)
He promises them great peace. “All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace.” (Isaiah 54:13, NIV) Ask God to be their teacher and bring peace where there is conflict.
Our hope isn’t in our efforts, but in the Lord who hears when we call. “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me.” (Psalm 120:1, ESV)
Your prayers matter. God sees and He hears.
As you continue in prayer, you can rejoice in the hope that God will hear and answer. “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” (Romans 12:12, ESV)
Don’t give up. Stay prayerful and hopeful, even when progress feels slow.
When you live righteously, God promises to deliver your children. “Be assured, an evil person will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will be delivered.” (Proverbs 11:21, ESV) Continue to live faithfully, and trust God to deliver your child.
When you’re parenting a rebellious child, it’s tempting to focus on the outward behavior, but real change begins in the heart. If your child is showing signs of rebellion, such as defiance, lying, or emotional withdrawal, don’t despair. God is bigger than their choices, and His Word will not return void (Isaiah 55:11).
