A few years ago, I wrote a post about Scriptures to pray over your rebellious child. This time around, we’re going to turn those Scriptures into prayers. I’ve always been a firm believer in the Word of God and prayer changing things and when it comes to dealing with a rebellious child, it’s certainly no different. Be sure to bookmark this page and write these prayers in your journal to pray often.
What does God say about a rebellious child?
Going back to Deuteronomy, God is pretty clear on what to do about rebellious children. However, when put into it’s proper context, the passage in Deuteronomy 21:18 pertains to a child who is considered a drunkard and glutton. So, what does this mean for all of the other rebellious children and their characteristics that aren’t those?
Scriptures to pray for a wayward child? I believe this passage gives us framework for what we should to do with our children spiritually. In other words, we should never hesitate to bring our rebellious child before the throne of the Father for both righteous judgment and a heart change. I’ve always said that we cannot change our children in our own power, but prayer and the Word of God can.
6 Prayers for Your Rebellious Child
How do you pray for a rebellious child? You can start by praying scripture over your child. But I’ve also written a few short prayers that you can use to lift your child up to the Father. Read on for my six prayers that you can pray faithfully over your rebellious child.
1. The Completion of Good Work
Lord, Your Word says that You began a good work in my child, therefore I can be confident in knowing that you will bring it to fruition. I am thankful that You are the Author and Finisher of our faith and I do not have to question Your hand being up on my child. Help keep me focused on this promise, especially when things get really hard. In Jesus name, amen.
2. Praying For A Changed Heart
Father, I know my rebellious child needs a heart change, which is something only You can do. Proverbs 21:1 says that you have the heart of the king in Your hand and You can do what you please. If you can do that with the king of a land, then I trust that You can also do that to the heart of my child. In Jesus name, amen.
3. The Peace of My Child
God, You know better than I that my child is far from having peace, but I choose to believe my rebellious child will be taught of You. Thank You for every opportunity to raise my child in the way they should go because when he (or she) is old, they will not depart from it. In Jesus name, amen.
4. Hope in the Lord
Father God, I understand that in all my efforts, I still need Your help with my rebellious child. Like it says in Psalm 38:15, for in You, Lord, do I hope. You will hear, O Lord, my God. I have faith that my prayers are being heard and will come to fruition in due time. In Jesus name, amen.
5. Patient in Tribulation
Lord, You know better than any parent what it’s like to have rebellious children. That’s why I pray that You would help me rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and continue in prayer no matter what circumstances or situations I face because of my rebellious child. I know that this too shall pass. In Jesus name, amen.
6. Deliverance for My Rebellious Child
God, I pray that through my righteous living my child would be delivered. I know the wicked will not go unpunished but according to Proverbs 11:21, the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. I put my hope in this promise and will continue to believe my child will be delivered from their wrongdoing and living a way that doesn’t please You. In Jesus name, amen.
Final Thoughts About Prayers for Your Rebellious Child
I understand what it’s like to parent a rebellious child and it is not for the faint of heart, to say the least. That’s why it’s important that we always go to the Creator of our children because He knows them better than we do. He is a good, good Father and is more faithful than we could ever be. It’s important to keep our eyes fixed on the Father and His righteousness.
