Think salad bar, dip bar, or a baked potato bar.

If you have little kids, pair them with older kids when playing a game specifically designed for their age group. Keep the rounds short and sweet and make it a big deal when someone wins.
Always keep in mind how many people are in your family, their ages, and what they like/dislike. If you have a super introverted child, they may not enjoy playing something that would require them to be extroverted. The same rule of thumb applies across the board. Also, look for games that match attention spans. The truth is that young children are less likely to sit still through a classic card game or board game that could end up being a 30-45 ordeal. And if necessary, solicit the help of older players to do short, fast-paced games with the young kids. The overall idea is to find different ways to have fun doing something together as a family.
