3 Positives of Being an Over-Reactive Mom

Recently I  shared my struggles with  being an over-reactive Mom in a post titled:  Are You An Over-Reactive Mom?  I love how God continues to teach and give help when He is working on my heart in a specific area.  I was so excited Sunday night when our pastor announced the title sermon! He gave an excellent message  that addressed the topic of being over-reactive, and what he shared is a great encouraging follow-up  for those of us who fall into that “over-reactive mom” category,

The sermon focused on Peter, one of the disciples who definitely had a tendency to over-react! Being prone to quickly over-reacting has some negatives, and isn’t usually a good thing. However, in the sermon our pastor pointed out some positives  that  Peter showed, or strengths of those who are over-reactive.

3 Strengths of Those Who Are Over-Reactive:

1. Immediate obedience

Matthew 4:19  – Jesus said “follow Me”, and Peter  immediately left his nets and followed.

2. Impassioned commitment

Luke 22:33 – Peter told Jesus he was willing to go with him to prison and to death.

3. Implicit trust

Matthew 14:28,29  When Jesus bid Peter to  walk on the water, he got out of the ship and started walking!

I love how these points show the parallel strength that goes with the weakness of over-reacting!

The other important thing I took from his sermon was HOW TO CALM OVER-REACTION:

*The 0pposite of over-reacting is stability. Stability calms extreme reactions. Instability causes extreme reactions. Everything WE do leads to instability; everything God does leads to stability.

God stabilizes us when:

*We follow His example of humility (pride often makes us over-react)

*We listen to His warnings

*We treat others with the grace which He has treated us with.

These thoughts were encouraging to me, the sometimes  over-reactive mom! I’m so glad that when we let God be in control, He stabilizes us.  Aren’t you?
