Would you like a purposeful summer, with no regrets and intentional living that focuses on your priorities?
Do you ever get to the end of summer and wonder where the time has gone, then come to the realization that you really had nothing to show for the summer in the way of accomplishments? You ask yourself what happened to those goals you had set for making the summer count.
I remember those times when I had great plans for my summer. Despite my plans, I failed to be intentional and then regretted that I hadn’t made better use of the extra time.
How To Have A Purposeful Summer
Can you relate?
I know there have been many summers where I just tended to relax a little too much, while also failing to plan how to intentionally make the best of the summertime. As a result, not much was accomplished!
The truth is that there will always be regrets when we don’t choose to live intentionally and make a plan with steps to help us accomplish our goals, no matter what time of the year it is.
As moms, our lives are incredibly busy.
We have many demands on us, so it is easy to get overwhelmed with it all. As a result we often let our circumstances dictate how we use our time, rather than purposefully choosing to be in control of how we use our time and what we accomplish.
You are probably ruled by your circumstances if any of these things are true:
- You find that God is often pushed aside in the busyness of your life
- You neglect taking care of yourself and your health, because you put other things first
- The relationships in your home are strained, or not what they should be, due to neglect
- You feel that you aren’t doing a very good job in area of homemaking
- You struggle to manage your time wisely
- You find yourself trying to do it all in your own strength, rather than tapping into the power of prayer
If you are feeling discouraged and struggling in these areas, but just don’t even know where to start, realize you aren’t alone!
A couple of years ago I was at that point of overwhelm, feeling like I was failing in so many areas. Filled with discouragement and guilt, I cried out to God to give me direction.
He spoke to me about working on three areas:
- My heart (relationship with Him)
- My health
- My home (relationships and homemaking)
This got me started on a journey of taking small steps to live more intentionally in these areas.
Since I was already overwhelmed, I realized that I needed to take one area at at time and work on slowly developing intentional habits in that area.
Rather than making a big list and trying to do them all, I listed what was important, then set up a plan to begin implementing those daily habits into my routine.
Habits usually take 21 days to develop, so rather than trying to make several improvements in each of the three areas, I realized it worked MUCH BETTER to start small with one or two changes till they developed into habits, before moving on to more changes.
The result? Habits began to develop as I lived intentionally, and I no longer felt so stressed and overwhelmed. Even better, I didn’t feel like a failure anymore.
If you have been struggling with living intentionally and managing these areas well, I would encourage you to consider that it might be time to look for a new approach to accomplishing the goals and priorities that God has placed on your heart.
