1. If you haven’t used it in the last year, or didn’t even know you had it, get rid of it!
Chances are, it’s just taking up space and adding to the chaos. Think about it—if you didn’t need it for an entire year, will you really need it now? Let it go and free up some room for the things you actually love and use. Donating or recycling it means someone else might enjoy and get value out of it!

2. Check expiration dates on things in your pantry, lazy susan, and medicine cabinet.
Get rid of all the out-of-date products. They are just taking up space and may be unsafe to use.
While you’re at it, organize what’s left so you can easily know what you have and avoid buying duplicates. Group similar items together, like spice, canned goods, or baking goods, so things are easy to find when you need them.
You will love how much more functional those spaces are once the clutter is gone, and things are grouped.

3. Get rid of kitchen bowls that are cracked, missing lids, or just taking up space in your cupboards.
If they’re damaged or missing pieces, you probably aren’t using them anyway, and they’re just adding to the clutter.
Focus on keeping the bowls you actually use and love—ones that are in good condition and have lids that fit and aren’t broken. 4. Sort toys, and put all pieces together — no more puzzles with missing pieces, or random toy car wheels lying around!
Once everything is organized, consider storing some toys in a box or storage bin in the garage. Keep just one box of toys in the house at a time, and rotate the boxes weekly, or every two weeks. This makes old toys feel new again while reducing clutter. This toy decluttering system not only cuts down on the mess and makes cleanup faster and easier. Plus, it helps to teach your kids the value of taking care of their toys while giving them less to care for at a time.
5. Get rid of clothes that no longer fit, or that you haven’t worn in the last year because you don’t feel comfy in them.
If it doesn’t make you feel good when you wear it, there’s no reason to let it take up precious space in your closet. Be honest with yourself – if it’s been sitting in your closet (or drawers) untouched for months or even a year, it’s time to let it go!
