Description

Training & Correcting the Heart With Scripture is designed to make it simple for parents to use God’s Word for reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. Included is a Bible study of 21 character qualities, including the Bible commands concerning them, the negative consequences of them, and the positive consequences of following God’s way instead. The information provided in this set is given to help parents make the most of each opportunity they have to train their children “in righteousness”, using His Word.

This is set up in such a way that you can use it with young ones, as well as with your teens. (Or teens can do it on their own.)

SECTION 1 – Parent Guide/Student Worksheets
Included in this section are worksheets for 21 different behaviors. Below are examples from the lesson on Anger vs. Self-control.

THE PARENT GUIDE:
Positive vs. Negative Trait  (Anger vs. Self-control)
3 or more References for Commands about the negative trait (Anger: Be angry and sin not)
3 or more References for Negative results of that trait (Anger: stirs up strife)
3 or more References for Positive results of good trait (Self-control: Keep you from trouble)
Verse to memorize

THE STUDENT WORKSHEET
There is one student worksheet for each of the 21 behaviors in the Parent Guide. These ask the student to fill in the answers to these questions relating to the topic:

What does God say about this (anger)?
What are the negative results of (anger)?
What are the positive results of (self-control)?
Write down this verse and memorize it: (Proverbs 16:32)

Two Ways to Use the Parent Guide/Student Worksheet set:

1.) The parent goes through the guide sheet with the child, they look the verses up together, and the student fills in his worksheet as they go through the guide sheet.
2.) The parent gives the guide sheet to the child, has him look up the verses on his own, and then fill in the worksheet based on personal experience from the situation.

These can be used as needed when situations arise, or just used as a character-building study to help them get God’s Word in their heart and mind. (Rather than scolding or getting frustrated, take them through the studies that relate to that behavior.)

Parents only need to purchase one ebook, and can then make additional copies as needed for the same topic, or for additional kids.

SECTION 2: Topical List of Behavior and Applicable Bible Verses

This section includes 17 Behaviors we often deal with when raising our children, and a list of references for verses that can be used to correct and train them in these areas.

Call the child into the room with their Bible, and their Character Notebook, and blank notebook paper. You can use this section in one of the following ways:

  1. Go down the list of verses for that topic, and have them write down key points. Talk to them about how to apply the verses to their situation. Then pray with them about growing in the positive area. (Have them put the paper in their notebook)

2. Give them a copy of the topical list and have them look up all the verses on their own, for the behavior they are struggling with. Ask them to write down two of them that they feel will help them the most, and then to memorize one that is the biggest help to them. (Have them add the paper to their notebook.)

**This can be used as a quick reference tool for correction; look up the behavior, and show them what God says about it. (References only are given, so you or your child can look them up in the version of your choice.)

God’s Word relates in a practical way to our kids’ lives and is the best tool for reaching their hearts. This is an excellent resource that will easily enable parents to use God’s Word for correction and training throughout each day, and make the most of those training/correcting opportunities when they arise!
