36 Homeschooling Tips From 31 Years

Below are some of my most popular homeschooling posts and the tips from each post. Feel free to click the links for more in-depth encouragement on any of the points.

I hope that somewhere in this long list, you will find some tidbits that will encourage and bless you, while also reminding you of what really matters in this new homeschool year.

3 Things I Learned From 31 Years of Homechooling

1. Homeschooling showed me my need for God on a DAILY basis.

2. Homeschooling  was something that God used to mold MY character.

3. Homeschooling is more about winning the hearts of our children, than academics.

2. The most important thing you can do is win your child’s heart.

3. Give priorities first place in your day.

4. You CAN do it!

5. Don’t take yourself too seriously.

6. You can’t do it all.

7. We ALL have bad days.

8. Homeschooling is more about discipling and preparing children for life than it is about academics.

10 Things That Helped Me Through 31 Years of Homeschooling

1. Probably THE most important thing I heard in my first year of homeschooling was that CHARACTER training was more important than the academics.

2. Everything our kids learn from kindergarten through grade 12, is only FOUR years of material.

3. I realized that not all my kids learned the same way, or at the same speed.

4. I taught my kids to be independent learners at a young age, and how to find answers.

5. The best planned days often don’t go as planned at all.

6. Sometimes you need to put a subject, or a topic from that subject aside, and come back to it later.

7. When I’m in too big of a hurry to spend time with God, things start coming apart.

8. A loose schedule but a regular routine makes a huge difference.

9. There will be days when you feel overwhelmed, and want to quit.

10. Don’t compare!

7 Secrets To A Good Homeschool Week

1. Keep your spirit right.

2. Get things organized

3. Have self-discipline

4. Let it go to voice mail.

5. Have a routine or schedule for everyone.

6. Remember  your priorities

7. Don’t let academics come before relationship.

Homeschooling:  If I Had It To Do Over Again

1. I would take better care of myself.

2. I would stress much less about WHEN a child “got” it with reading, or math.

3. I would focus less on making sure the rules were being obeyed, and more on building the relationship that would make them WANT to obey those rules!

WHICH OF THESE DO YOU THINK ARE MOST IMPORTANT? My personal favorite:  When I’m in too big of a hurry to spend time with God, things start coming apart.
