Why God Doesn’t Need My Help

As a mom, there have been so many times when I have been consumed with worry and concern about my kids. Often, I have found myself thinking “If I do/say this, then maybe that will make them do/say……” It’s a struggle to just take the child and their situation to God, and trust Him to take care of it, without my help!

Why God Doesn’t Need My Help

Woman open hand realizing God doesn't need our help

The truth is that He doesn’t need my help, but I sure do need His!

Acts 17:24-25 reminds us that “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things.

God can work in the hearts and minds of others.

He can change hearts. He can work in ways we would never think of, to accomplish His purpose and plans. Why is it so hard to just so hard to believe God doesn’t need my help, leave it, and be still?

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Sometimes God is very intentional in reminding us of lessons learned in the past that we are struggling with once again. This is exactly what He did with me!

God’s Reminder that He Doesn’t Need My Help

I had a sweet, and wonderful reminder the other day that we can trust God. That we don’t need to try to help Him. The reminder came in the form of a voice mail from my daughter. She is away at Bible college, ten hours from home. Although she loves it and is doing well, it hasn’t been easy for her. Many lessons are being learned as she listens and lets God teach her.

Her message started with the words, “I just called to tell you what lesson God taught me this week.” She told me how God showed her that she overthinks a lot. That she tends to get worried and frustrated about situations. She thinks and thinks about what she can do to “fix” it, or take care of it. (I don’t know where she might have gotten that from!)

When you feel like God needs your help

That morning she was feeling concerned about a friend. Her friend wasn’t thinking clearly and was leaning towards making a big mistake. She fretted about what she could do or what she should say. She cried out to God and asked Him to do something to change the friend’s heart. Later that morning in chapel, the message was about going the wrong way. Her friend ended up crying at the end of the message, realizing the error of their thinking.

She ended her message with these words:

The lesson I learned from this is: God takes care of things in the end. I don’t have to always step up, and try to fix it myself.

Wow, what a blessing to see God prove Himself to her! If you are consumed with worry about how to fix a situation or change it, remember that God can be trusted. He doesn’t need us or our help. He has chosen us and He will not let us down. There is nothing that can separate us from Him. He is in control.

God Doesn’t Need My Help and I can leave it with Him!

  1. Sometimes I am amazed as I hear the wisdom that comes out of the mouth of my adult kids, as they are learning through the experiences of life, and growing. SO much better to learn these things early!

  2. Mia, that is so true! My kids are safer when they are in the center of God’s will, than anywhere else they could be.

  3. When they are little, you wonder if they will EVER get it,but when they become adults and you start seeing some of the results of your teaching & training, it is such a blessing.

  4. I love it when my kids remind me of things I’ve tried to teach them, but I still need to be reminded of! 🙂

  5. What a sweet blessing. My children are all very little, but it is always encouraging to hear adults of grown children share sweet stories like this.

  6. Dear Kathie
This is a mother thing, dear one. A.W. Tozer wrote in his book. In Pursuit Of God, that when we hand over our children or anyone to Jesus, they are safe for eternity. With us they can never be save! This makes so much sense, for only Jesus can save anyone and live in a person like Paul reminded us in Colossians 1:27, “Christ in me, my hope of glory”.

  7. What a blessing to learn that lesson younger rather than later in life! May we remember that He is able!!!
