I believe that the best gift you can give your kids is a knowledge of, and love for God’s precious Word! You never know when those Scripture songs or memorized verses you taught to your children will come to them right when they need it.
This was confirmed to me recently when I read the following status that one of my daughters posted on her Facebook page:
“God is so good and gracious to me, His fearful, fretting child.
When I need Him most, He always lets me know He is here.
Thankful for His gentle reminders to me today, in the form of scriptures set to music, that I learned as a child.
The comforting verses/songs have been rolling through my mind one after another.”
What a blessing and encouragement this was for me! It confirmed that time invested in Scripture memory was STILL paying off.
God’s Word won’t return unto Him void, and will accomplish what it was sent to do. This testimony from my daughter is PROOF of that.
As a young adult, those Scripture were still in her mind, bringing her comfort.
May I encourage you to be INTENTIONAL about getting God’s Word into the hearts and minds of your children? God’s Word will do SO much for them!
Not only will knowing and obeying God’s Word make our children wise, but it will also keep them from sin, guide their path, cleanse their way (Psalm 119), and bring them blessing. (Psalm 1)
As parents we are so intentional about making sure our kids get their needed academic training. Why wouldn’t we be even more intentional about ensuring that they know God’s Word?
Taking time to help them memorize His Word through songs and rote memory, while also encouraging them to make a habit of daily Bible reading is one of the best investments you can make in their training.
We make our children bathe daily and brush their teeth, yet how much more important it is to be sure they are cleansed daily by God’s Word!
When your children are struggling with heart issues, take them to God’s Word and show them Biblical answers. Have them memorize a verse that will help them in their struggle.
This will not only help them to hide God’s Word in their hearts, but also teach them to go to His Word for answers and help.
