7 Things I Hope My Kids See in Me

In a previous post I asked the question “What Do My Kids See in Me?It is a sobering question to consider.  It’s also something that challenges me to think about what things I hope my kids see in me.  Of course, I want them to see Jesus in me, as I mentioned in the last post.

Things I hope my kids see in me

Thinking of the influence I have as a homeschooling mom, and being with my kids all the time, I asked myself the questions:  “What do I want to characterize me?” or “What do I want them to see in me?”

Here’s what the Lord impressed on my heart and mind:

1. A consistent daily walk with God, spending time in His Word and prayer.

2. A dedication to teaching and training them, and making time to learn and prepare.

3. A willingness to put aside personal interests for their interests and needs.

4. A willingness to learn from others.

Learn everything you can from someone who is being blessed.

5 pillars of Biblical Parenting

5. Self-control, and the discipline to do what I should with my time.

6. Perseverance and determination to stick with the job till it is done.

This could mean dealing with training that difficult child, or helping that child struggling with learning to read, or any job that is hard.

7. Genuine love for them, as well as others.

“Love is the cement that binds people together, the correction fluid that covers our flaws, and the salve that heals our wounds.”

As mothers, we are leading our kids by our example. My prayer is that I will be the example God wants me to be for my children!

  1. My family members always say that I am wasting my time here at net, but I know I am getting know-how everyday by reading
    such nice articles.

  2. Hi Fernanda! Thank you so much for letting me know how my blog has blessed you! Praying that God will guide you and give you wisdom as you raise your daughter for Him! ~Kathie

  3. Hello Kathie! I’m from Brazil and I’ve been very blessed through your blog. I am participating in the 30 day prayer challenge and I have been a blessing in my life. I want to learn to be intentional and to serve the Lord better. I want my daughter to see in me a godly, wise and loving mother.
Thank God I found your blog, because I do not have an experienced woman like you to instruct me. (Titus 2)
I pray that God will continue to bless your life and inspire you to help women live worthy of the gospel.
I do not speak English, but I use google translate to read the content you write. Thank God for that, too.

  4. Great list! I think I’d add genuineness – that what my children see in me when we’re home is what they see in me when we’re out interacting with others.

  5. “What do I want my kids to see in me?” is a sobering question that needs some contemplation. Thank you for challenging me with this today, and giving me food for thought.

  6. Yes, I totally agree! I try to be a good example because I know my kids do what I do much more than what I say! God bless you and your large family! We have 9 and love every crazy, challenging minute.
