30 Words of Affirmation Every Child Needs To Hear (And Printable)

One of the most important things we can do as a parent is to make sure that our children hear words of affirmation every day. Our words are SO powerful. They can tear our children down or build them up.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

I want to be sure that my words speak life to my kids.

How do you affirm a child? This is such an important part of being purposeful in our parenting. We need to purposefully speak words of affirmation that build up our children. Words of affirmation for kids not only encourage them today, but they will also carry them into adulthood. Pouring these positive reminders into their hearts now will have a profound impact on who they become as adults.

  1. Hi Peggy! So glad you enjoy my blog. I love that you bought the Praying Biblical Virtues for your girls, while thinking of your grandkids!! That is great. 🙂 Yay for the “oops!” A surprise blessing from God!

  2. I’m a homeschool mom of 25 years and love your blog. I just purchased 3 books for my girls so they can pray for the character of my grandchildren. The list is great ! My last baby was our “oops” , but God’s plan. She is 28 now and I still say to her, “What would we do without our Jackie?”

  3. Hi Rachel! Thank you for your encouraging words!

  4. I love the positive focus of this! I’ve seen a number of articles about things you should “never” say to your children and, honestly, I think very few of them are inherently problematic and deserve that “never” label. (Most of them are more a matter of context or balance.) But THIS is what really makes the difference — if words like these dominate our conversations.

  5. Love it!! That’s a great one!

  6. My favorite thing to say to my daughter is “I’m your biggest fan.” She always gives me a big smile when I say it!

  7. Thanks Patty for those “affirming” words. 🙂

  8. Affirmation is so important for children! Having worked with kids for years and now being a new mommy, I can say this is definitely a great list. Thank you for sharing!

    God bless,
    Patty
