3 Cures To Beat The Blahs Now

I don’t know about you, but about this time of year, I start suffering from a bad case of the blahs! First, the excitement from Christmas and the time spent with the family is over. Then add in the weather not being very nice. Because of those is easy to feel a little bit down. I’m sure you can relate to what I’m talking about. If you are suffering with this issue, here are some cures for the blahs!

Here are 3 Cures To Beat The Blahs Now!

Sad Woman 3 Cures for the Blahs The Character Corner

It’s easy to look at other moms, and think they are always on top of things, cheerful, and ready to face the day. The reality is that we all have days where we face the blahs. The important thing is what we do about it. How are we to respond?

How do you beat the blahs?

1. Give thanks to God

First, I remind myself that God has given me a new day of life, and that is a gift.

Second, I quote the verse “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God.”  I Thessalonians 5:18

Third, I go on to thank Him for the many, many things I have to be grateful for.

That alone gets me feeling a little more chipper!

2. Start praising God

Similar to giving thanks, but here I choose to quote verses that specifically praise God.

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1)

“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all they diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindess and tender mercies; Who satisfieth they mouth with good things; so that they youth is renewed like the eagle’s. ” (Psalm 103:1-5)

It’s hard to not get excited as you start to think about the words of these verses!

Praising God will change your spirit and your outlook.

By the way, the verses that I chose to quote were either Scripture songs we had taught our kids when they were younger or passages of Scripture we had memorized with them.

Who says that helping your kids memorize God’s Word is only good for them? You also benefit by getting it in your heart and mind!

I am finding as I get older that the songs come back to my mind easily, whereas I can’t always remember entire passages that we learned.

Singing Scripture is a great way to keep God’s Word in the heart and mind of you AND your kids!

3. Choose joy

I make the choice to choose joy.

Again I use Scripture to help me:

The joy of the Lord is my strength“, and “Rejoice in the Lord always.”

I could give in to my gloomy spirits but instead, giving thanks to God, and praising Him makes it easy to choose joy.

It is amazing how much better I feel after following these three steps.

“It’s amazing what praising can do; I don’t worry when things go wrong, Jesus fills my heart with a song; it’s amazing what praising can do, hallelujah!

Next time you have the blahs, take time to thank and praise the Lord, then choose His joy!
